Biblical Character: Obedience, Part 2

Unfortunately, as we have watched the news this week, we have seen the results of a society that, as a whole, has sought to shake off the Biblical character trait of obedience and submission to authority. As we have watched as the Governor of Maryland declared a state of emergency in the city of Baltimore so that he could send the National Guard into Baltimore to help restore and keep the peace, we must admit that there is a problem.

Twice in the book of Judges we read…

“In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6; 21:25)

The nation of Israel had rejected God’s authority and, because there was no earthly authority in place, everyone was obedient to only one person – themselves. That’s a fairly accurate commentary on the state of the world in which we live today.

In this message we will look at the definition of “obedience,” look at the Foundation of Biblical obedience, and begin see its development in the life of a believer!
