The Parable of Stewardship, Part 1

Teachers in school, once they have presented a particular concept or truth, will then demonstrate or illustrate that concept or truth to help drive it home in the minds of their students. Jesus Christ often did this with the use of parables. Perhaps you have heard this definition of a parable: “It is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.” A perfect example of this is found in Luke chapter 8 with the Parable of the Sower and the Seed.

Three weeks ago I gave you a working definition of Biblical Stewardship:

Biblical stewardship involves our relationship with God, the Creator & Sustainer of the universe, as He reveals Himself to us and our obedience to God’s commands as He desires to reveal Himself through us to the world.

Probably some of you shook your head and thought, “That doesn’t have anything to do with stewardship.” Tonight, allow me to wrap an illustration – a true Biblical story of stewardship – around that definition. Read Genesis chapter 24.
