The Wrath of God Is Revealed

On Friday morning, June 26, 2015, 5 members of the Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled that same-sex marriage is legal. Responding to an email that a church member sent to me about the ruling, I wrote,

“Sad day for our country, yet we must not lose hope. ‘Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…’ While I in no way want to down play the seriousness of this decision, I’m sure that we are feeling the same that folks felt when the SCOTUS legalized abortion. We must stay faithful to the truth and keep sharing the Gospel. It is our only hope! God can still work! There can still be revival! God’s still on the throne!”

Twitter, Facebook and just about every other social media outlet and news media outlet exploded with the news and with everyone’s opinion of the decision. This morning, I don’t want to discuss what has been said by the Supreme Court or by what has been said by others about the Supreme Court’s decision. This morning, I want to focus on what God’s Word says.

Before I get into the meat of the message, allow me to give you 2 Biblical truths that will stand regardless of what a man – or even a group of 5 men and women – may decide:

  • Marriage is between one man and one woman.

“…Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

“And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19:4-6

  • Any sexual relationship, outside of the bonds of marriage, is sin.

“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4

South Charlotte Baptist Church is going to continue to stand on the truth – the truth of God’s Word – and I want to encourage you to continue to stand upon the truth as well!
